Re: Chartering the web UI interest group
by Christopher James Tuot, last updated: Sep 08, 2008 12:06 AM
No more authentication problem. I added the section "Related work" where I want to put some information about current related work on Kepler WebUI, at least the ones I am aware of.

Hi Kirsten, I've added the 3 most recent What's new items to the left hand column, and am happy to add a collection for the PDF newsletters-- just make a folder with the files and I'll take care of the rest. cheers, Shaun Previously Kirsten Menger-Anderson wrote: Hi- I'd like to add portlets/containers to the User area of the wiki to contain things like the most recent three What's New items, as well as the most recent newsletters. Re: Trouble reproducing "Accessing HSQL" steps

The class name was truncated, so it wouldn't work. You need to change 'DatabaseManage' to 'DatabaseManager'. I accepted the default connection options and it worked for me.

A folder to contain the development documents for Kepler.
Trouble reproducing "Accessing HSQL" steps
by Kirsten Menger-Anderson, last updated: Sep 05, 2008 09:55 AM
Hi. I'm not sure where the best place to post this is, but I figured I'd ask here first. I'm having trouble reproducing the five seemingly very straightforward steps for HSQL on my Windows machine. I can't get past step three because I get a no class def found error. I'm probably doing something very foolish, but I have no idea what, and i was hoping that someone could confirm that the instructions do in fact work? They are here: https://dev.kepler-project.org/developers/reference/accessing-hsql . Thank you!
Suggestions for "Projects Using Kepler" section
by Kirsten Menger-Anderson, last updated: Sep 05, 2008 09:17 AM
Hi again- I was hoping we could use this thread to come up with a list of projects to feature in the "Projects Using Kepler" section ( https://dev.kepler-project.org/users/projects-using-kepler ). As of now, I've added the two projects already covered in the newsletter (pPOD and REAP). Tim suggested that we cover a project that used Kepler as a backend (perhaps SANParks? Or Biodiversity Pipeline? Other ideas?) as well as one that isn't being funded to extend Kepler. The selected projects should also cover as wide a range of disciplines as possible. Something from molecular biology? Physics/astronomy? etc? All ideas and suggestions much appreciated.
Software Development Guidelines

Because Kepler is a collaborative project, adhering to consistent formatting and naming conventions is especially important. Please review the guidelines for information about best practices.

New Content in the User section
by Kirsten Menger-Anderson, last updated: Sep 04, 2008 02:04 PM
Hi, I added some content to the User side of the Kepler wiki and would love to get feedback from you about it. I'm still working on adding portlets to the pages with links to recent news items and newsletters, as well as more images to make the place more eye-catching--if you have suggestions along those lines, please pass them along as well. Thanks!
Useful resources
by Aaron Schultz, last updated: Sep 04, 2008 01:29 PM
I thought I would start a thread to share useful resources that people know about or have come across that others could also benefit from. These newsgroups for Eclipse have a lot of information in them and are useful for asking questions or doing directed searches for Eclipse specific information. http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/index.php Specifically the eclipse.technology.equinox and eclipse.platform.pde newsgroups may be most relevant for us. Also if you are new to Eclipse the eclipse.newcomer group is a great place to ask questions. It is probably worth mentioning that the eclipse.technology.kepler group is not directly related to our project but was a proposal for an eclipse project that seems to have not moved past the proposal stage. An important part of the framework for Kepler is going to be dependency management so here are a couple links for tools that help with that. If you know of others I'd certainly be happy to hear about them. JDepend - I have some Java programs that use this if you'd like more examples JDepend4Eclipse - this works with Europa but not Ganymede structure101 - this is a commercial package that may be worth getting at some point, in the meantime there is a 15 day trial if you'd like to check it out
Re: Nightly build
by Matthew Jones, last updated: Sep 01, 2008 10:31 AM
On another issue regarding the nightly build, our old "cruise control" nightly build is no longer running. The testing that had been running on that machine has not been moved to the NMI build, so we need to do that sometime soon. This involves writing an NMI build script that depends on a successful build and then executes the JUnit tests and the workflow tests. These is an existing test shell script that was used under cruise control that can probably be adapted to work with NMI.
Nightly build
by Matthew Jones, last updated: Sep 01, 2008 10:28 AM
For those of you who monitor the nightly build that is run under NMI, you'll have noticed that it is failing lately. However, I wanted to point out that it is actually building fine. The failure is some sort of subtle failure of the final stage of the build in which the post_all shell script is run at the end of the build. This script is used to copy the installer that is built from the NMI hosts to the Kepler web site. The copy succeeds and all commands in the script complete successfully, but for some reason that I have not yet figured out, NMI marks the build as failed. If I remove the post_all script from the build, the build is marked as successful. So, there's some technicality that I have not yet figured out. I'll continue trying to work out what's wrong with the script, but thought I would point out the problem here.

I added to the participant list for the Web UI group, and added these people to the access list so that they ahve write access to the web area. Additions include Jones, Leinfelder, Staggs, Tuot, Allen, and King.
Re: Framework team roadmap
by Timothy McPhillips, last updated: Aug 28, 2008 03:19 PM
I've added a new milestone to the road map , proposing we release a new version of the Kepler kernel that has the features required to run the ppod-related extensions. We can assume that the subsequent milestones depend on that version of the kernel.
Provenance Interest Group
by Ilkay Altintas, last updated: Aug 28, 2008 01:04 PM
This group discusses features of and identifies integration points between the current provenance implementations in Kepler. The goal of this group is to evolve into a task group that will consolidate ongoing provenance work. Examples to discussion points are the provenance framework and recorder, current data models for provenance and provenance viewer.

What would folks think about hiding the globe and padlock symbols that currently appear next to links to sites outside the Plone system? I find them distracting, especially in the middle of paragraphs of text. Thoughts?
